New Experiences (Ruchi Kapoor, Oct 9th, 2007) |

In childhood, a person makes ones most important steps
when he joins his/her school. Its as if a whole new
world is opened where he/she learns not only to
read and write but also to laugh, play, stand ones ground
and form as well as maintain meaningful relationships.
In my case, it has been a regular cycle of adjusting
after every three years as my father was in the Indian
Embassy and had to shift to a new country every three
years. So every three years I found myself restarting
a new life in a new country and hence a new culture,
different surroundings, climate and a new school and a
new set of friends. I am so thankful for all the
friends I have made as they have been a source of
immense strength and helped make the transition smooth
and easy.
During these courses of new adjustments, the best
experience has been that of being a part of the Indian
School, Bahrain. It was because this school was a
mixture of both the modern facilities and maintaining
our culture, which surely could not be experienced
either in the American schools or in the schools in
India. This school gave the wonderful experience of
maintaining harmony between both the worlds in the true
sense.
Leaving school is one of the most difficult and
uncertain stages in life as any decisions and choices
made are bound to leave a lifelong impact. One begins
gradually shedding the carefree robes of childhood and
donning a more serious and meaningful role of an
adult, which meant that one has to learn to be more
independent, more responsible and more
career-oriented. Pursuing useful professional courses,
keeping up with the rat race and peer pressure,
getting settled and becoming independent, going the
matrimonial way and finally making a home are stages
we have all been through. We have all had different
experiences while trying to understand life more
closely and are constantly learning whatever lessons
we can.
Having come in contact with this group and thereby so
many old friends there has been an outburst of old
memories, friends who were part of the best
experiences in our lives. It was wonderful connecting
with these people once again who are now masters in
all types of professionally qualified fields. Even
though I never knew many of them people in my school
days, it does seem that all these people are now part
of my ISB family friends and that this is the second
phase of the best schooling (except that there is no
homework). There is so much talk in this group in all
fields, viz. specs, books, cartoons, travelling,
leg-pulling, etc. which seems like homework in
itself. Another major job of this group, these days is
organizing a reunion in the near future. Even if it
seems difficult, a reunion promises to be quite an
experience just thinking about it. I am also quite
certain it would also result in a wonderful beginning
of so many more.
